Vent de fraîcheur sur le rock américain, Imagine Dragons fait son petit bout de chemin depuis la sortie de leur premier EP en 2009. Le single "It’s Time" les a fait connaître du grand public et a préparé le terrain à l’album "Night Visions" sorti en septembre 2012. Avec "Radioactive", single extrait de ce premier album, ils s’imposent enfin dans les charts français.

En 2015, installés sur la scène pop et rock, le groupe livre son deuxième album "Smoke + Mirrors". A l’aise dans leur rythme, les Imagines Dragons dévoile "Believer" en février 2017, le premier single extrait d’un troisième album à venir.

Naissance à Vegas

Imagine Dragons se forme quand le leader Dan Reynolds, originaire de Las Vegas, rencontre en 2008 le guitariste Wayne Sermon. Les deux musiciens commencent à se produire à Vegas, rapidement rejoints par Ben McKee, Andrew Tolman et Brittany Tolman.
C’est d’abord au niveau local que le groupe se fait connaître et remporte des tremplins pour jeunes artistes.

Leur premier EP "Night Visions" sort en septembre 2009, suivi en juin 2010 par "Hell and Silence", tous les deux enregistrés aux studios Battle Born.
Toujours établis à Las Vegas, ils signent avec le label Interscope Records début 2011, chez qui ils sortent un nouvel EP, intitulé "It’s Time".
C’est cette chanson qui devient le premier hit du groupe du Nevada, qui est à présent composé de Dan Reynolds au chant, Wayne Sermon à la guitare, Ben McKee à la basse et Daniel Platzman à la batterie.

En route vers les premiers succès

Imagine Dragons s’associe alors au producteur Alex Da Kid, avec qui ils réalisent un nouvel EP enregistré aux studios Westlake Recording à West Hollywood en Californie. "Continued Silence" sort dans les bacs en février 2012.

Le single "It’s Time" est disponible peu de temps après et permet aux quatre garçons de percer dans le rock américain : c’est un premier succès. Ils se font une place dans le classement rock du Billboard puis au classement général où ils atteignent la 15e place. Leur clip est alors nommé aux MTV Video Music Awards, ce qui leur donne une exposition médiatique supplémentaire.

Petit à petit, Imagine Dragons prépare le terrain pour la sortie d’un premier album. "Night Visions" débarque en septembre 2012 et le succès est immédiat : l’opus réalise le meilleur démarrage pour un album rock outre-Atlantique depuis 2006 et arrive sur la 2e marche du Billboard Hot 200 ! Leur son rock teinté de hip-hop et de synthés séduit le public par sa modernité.

S’ils remplissent les salles de concert aux Etats-Unis, le groupe commence à se faire également connaître en Europe fin 2012, grâce au single "Radioactive".

Petit coup de pouce du destin, le titre d’Imagine Dragons se retrouve sur la bande annonce du jeu vidéo "Assassin's Creed III" et figure en 2013 au générique du film "Les Âmes vagabondes". Il devient un hit !

Pendant l’été 2013, le quatuor américain continue de se produire aux Etats-Unis et passe également par l’Europe avec son "Night Visions Tour".

Le premier Grammy

En 2014, c’est toujours avec le même album, certifié disque de platine dans une dizaine de pays, qu’Imagine Dragons continue à triompher dans le monde entier. Le groupe se voit notamment récompensé du Grammy Award de la Meilleure performance rock pour "Radioactive", morceau qui a été revisité pour l’occasion dans une nouvelle version avec le rappeur Kendrick Lamar.

En avril, lors de la dernière date de leur nouvelle tournée "Into The Night Tour", les rockeurs annoncent sur la scène du festival Lollapalooza qui se déroulait cette fois au Brésil qu’il est temps pour eux d’officiellement mettre un terme à ce premier cycle de leur carrière. Imagine Dragons sort ainsi en France un dernier single, "On Top of the World", déjà commercialisé à l’international, qui conclut ainsi l’aventure "Night Visions" et annonce la préparation d’un second album, déjà entamé sur les routes !

"Smoke + Mirrors", un nouvel album

Suite à la sortie de leur album "Night", les Imagine Dragons passent les deux dernières années en tournée à travers le monde. C’est donc sur les routes que le groupe trouve le temps et surtout l’inspiration pour écrire leur deuxième album, "Smoke + Mirrors".

Sur cet opus, Imagine Dragons utilise des instrumentales très étudiées avec des beats rock très malicieux. Enregistré dans leur studio à Las Vegas,"Smoke + Mirrors"lie la douleur à la joie. Cet opus comporte plus de textures et de profondeurs aux rythmes et mélodies déjà existantes et prouve que le groupe écrit et compose désormais avec plus de maturité.

L’album sort finalement en février 2015.

Deux ans de pause pour mieux revenir

Après l’énorme succès de "Smoke + Mirrors", Imagine Dragons se fait plus discret. On retrouve le groupe sur les B.O des films "Avant toi", "Suicide Squad" et "Passengers".

Il faut attendre novembre 2016 pour apprendre que le groupe travaille sur un nouvel album, dont le premier titre extrait est dévoilé le 1er février 2017. Il s’intitule "Believer". Le groupe enchaine au début de l'été 2017 avec un nouvel extrait, "Thunder".

Imagine Dragons est nommé dans la catégorie "Groupe / Duo International de l'Année" aux NRJ Music Awards 2017.

Nouvel album

Le 23 juin 2017, Imagine Dragons dévoile l’album "Evolve"qui comprend 12 titres tels que "I’ll Make It Up To You"et "Dancing In The Dark". Dès la première semaine, l’album se hisse en deuxième position du Billboard 200 avec plus de 100.000 ventes. Il est notamment nommé disque de platine par le RIAA aux États-Unis. Et en septembre 2017, il est certifié d’or en France.

Sur les routes

Sur les réseaux sociaux, Imagine Dragons annonce le début de son Evolve World Tour. La tournée débute en septembre 2018 et prend fin le 31 août 2018.

Nouveaux projets

En janvier 2018, un documentaire sur Dan Reynolds intitulé Believer est diffusé au festival de Sundance. Le 21 février 2018, le groupe dévoile le nouveau morceau «Next to Me». Et le 13 mars, un court-métrage de 11 minutes voir le jour. Dans le clip réalisé par Mark Pellington, Dan Reynolds détient le rôle principal et incarne un criminel vivant les derniers jours de sa vie.

Alors qu’une nouvelle tournée mondiale se profile, les Imagine Dragons se dépêchent de fignoler leurs nouvelles pépites. Le 17 juillet sort leur nouveau single, «Natural», alors que le public attend le résultat d’une collaboration avec le DJ norvégien Kygo annoncée un peu plus tôt. L’attente est récompensée seulement quelques jours plus tard puisque «Born To Be Yours» sort le 27 juillet accompagné d’un clip mémorable.

Durant l'été, les Imagine Dragons vont enchaîner les concerts partout dans le monde, avec une date en France, le 21 août,au Zénith de Nancy.

Imagine Dragons est élu"Groupe / Duo International de l'Année" aux NRJ MusicAwards 2018.

Imagine Dragons sort le titre émouvant "Birds"en juillet 2019 et reste par la suite très discret. Dan Reynoldsannoncesur Twitter que le groupe «travaillesur quelque chose de spécial» pendant le confinement, en mars 2020.

Un retour annoncé au printemps 2021

Après trois années passées à travailler sur leur nouveau projet, les membres du groupe Imagine Dragons sont fiers d’annoncer l’arrivée de leur nouvel opus pour la fin du printemps 2021 (ou le début de l’été). Dès le mois de mars, Dan Reynolds et ses acolytes décident de dévoiler les premiers extraits de ce nouvel album signé Imagine Dragons. Les fans découvrent simultanément "Follow You" et "Cutthroat", deux titres basés sur les sonorités pop-rock qui ont fait le succès du groupe.

Le nouvel album enfin dévoilé

Après plusieurs (et longs) mois d’attente, le groupe Imagine Dragons lève le voile sur la sortie tant attendue de son nouvel album. Dès le 3 septembre 2021, les fans du groupe ont l’opportunité d’enrichir leur bibliothèque musicale avec "Mercury - Acte 1". Pour promouvoir cet opus, les Américains décident de mettre en avant le titre "Wrecked", une ballade riche en émotion et composée en guise d’hommage à la belle-sœur de Dan Reynolds, décédée quelques mois plus tôt.

Imagine Dragons investit l’univers Netflix

Dans la foulée de la sortie du dernier album, le groupe Imagine Dragons dévoile un tout autre projet: "Enemy". La chanson, enregistrée en collaboration avec le rappeur américain J.I.D, est destinée à accompagner la sortie de la série d’animation "Arcane" sur Netflix, une série dérivée du jeu vidéo "League of Legends". Pour la petite anecdote, "Enemy" ne repose que sur deux accords, là où la plupart des chansons en dénombrent habituellement au moins quatre.

"I Don’t Like Myself" : pour lever le tabou

La deuxième partie du dernier album du quatuor américain, "Mercury - Acte 2" sortie en juillet 2022, dévoile un nouveau titre "I Don’t Like Myself". Cette chanson, qui parle ouvertement de santé mentale, est illustrée par un clip en noir et blanc intense et plein d’émotions. Un sujet qui tient particulièrement à cœur au groupe puisque le leader a lui-même souffert de dépression pendant des années.

La même année, le groupe est nommé dans les catégories "Groupe/Duo international de l'année" et "Chanson internationale de l'année" avec le hit "Bones" aux NRJ Music Awards et remporte l'Award du Meilleur groupe.
